This was is an excellent short story that takes place in the rural southern parts of America. It's just the way that they did things. She wants the better things in life and goes off to college to find them. Who would you have given the quilt to? The real obstacle seems to be the power struggle over heritage between mamma, and Dee. The idea of practical art is deeply rooted in African customs. Dee was young when she left her home and refused the quilt.

In fact, she helped bri Dee and Maggie are as different as day and night but Mama love them both.
